Susan Balland has worked in a variety of roles since 1993. Susan began their career as an Elementary School Teacher for the Spencer VanEtten School District, a position they held until 2003. Susan then moved on to become a Store Manager for Talbots from 2003 to 2019. In 2019, they became a Customer Service Manager for Wayfair. In 2020, they were a Partner Support Coordinator for Maisonette, and they are currently a Senior Manager Customer Operations for Hill House Home since 2022.

Susan Balland obtained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Elementary Education from the State University of New York College at Potsdam.
