Sam Diaz has extensive experience in the field of communications and content strategy. Sam has worked in various roles at different companies throughout their career.
Starting in 1997, Sam worked as a Technology Reporter for the San Jose Mercury News, covering innovations in consumer technology and Silicon Valley companies. Sam also covered transportation issues in the Bay Area.
From 2004 to 2007, Sam served as the Financial Officer for the NAHJ (National Association of Hispanic Journalists), overseeing a $2.1 million budget and working towards the advancement of Latino issues and parity for Latino journalists in the US.
At The Washington Post, from 2005 to 2007, Sam was an Assistant Technology Editor and Technology Reporter. Sam edited technology news stories, with a focus on consumers and regulatory concerns. Sam also served as the lead blogger for Post IT, the newspaper's Technology Blog.
From 2007 to 2008, Sam worked as the Director of Content Creation at the SutherlandGold Group, where they worked directly with technology startups to develop and implement content creation strategies.
From 2008 to 2011, Sam had multiple roles at CBS Interactive / ZDNet, including Senior Editor and Freelance Blogger. Sam covered technology issues, companies, and services, primarily from Silicon Valley. Sam also offered live coverage from technology conferences and co-anchored the site's primary news and commentary blog.
In 2011, Sam founded their own company, Digital Content Strategies, where they served as Founder/Owner.
From 2012 to 2016, Sam worked as the Director of Digital Content at Broadcom. Sam was responsible for developing and executing a global digital communications strategy and overseeing the corporate website, blog, and external social media properties.
From 2016 to 2017, Sam worked as the Director of Communications, News at HP, where they were responsible for the company's digital news presence and creative direction for digital assets.
From 2018 to 2021, Sam worked as the Vice President, Content + Publishing Strategies at Hill & Knowlton, overseeing strategic content initiatives for clients across all sectors.
Since 2022, Sam has taken on the role of Vice President Board of Directors, Silicon Valley Chapter at the Hispanic PR Association (HPRA).
Throughout their career, Sam has worked with clients in various sectors, including technology, energy and industrials, financial and professional services. Their client list has included companies such as Deloitte, Verisign, Ford, Sk hynix, University of California, and Procter & Gamble.
Sam Diaz received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and English from California State University, Fresno in 1992. Prior to attending university, Sam Diaz attended Oak Grove High School. Additionally, Sam Diaz has a certification in the Hispanic & Latino Executive Leadership Program from McKinsey & Company, obtained in 2022.
