Diane Philipp

VP, Student Affairs at Hillsdale College

Diane Philipp was appointed Vice President for Student Affairs at Hillsdale College in 2006. She also served concurrently as Dean of Women from 2006-2020. In more than 35 years of employment at Hillsdale College, she has held multiple roles, including six years as director of Special Projects for Admissions, from 2000 to 2006. Prior to her position in Admissions, she was athletic director and Upper School history teacher at Hillsdale Academy. Following her graduation from Hillsdale College in 1982, where she earned secondary education certification and a degree in history, she coached the Hillsdale College women’s track and cross-country teams until 1999. Her athletes won multiple awards, including 11 national champions, 22 overall GLIAC conference championships in cross-country and track, 10 top-four team finishes at the national championships, and 52 athletic and 46 academic All-Americans. She was also named GLIAC Coach of the Year 20 times, District/Regional Coach of the Year 34 times, and was inducted into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame.

Outside of Hillsdale, Philipp has been a member of the USA Track and Field board of directors and was the youngest and first female president of the Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches’ Association. She was selected to coach at the 1989 USA Olympic Festival, as well as the 1990 USA Ekiden Distance Team that took first place in Barcelona, Spain. She was named women’s coach for the U.S. Cross-Country Trials in 1995, and she coached the United States National Team at the 1995 World Championships in Durham, England, where her team finished fifth in the world. She was also appointed head coach for the Women’s Track and Field Championships in Annecy, France, where her team finished second in the world.

She and her husband Al have two children—Marissa, a 2013 Hillsdale graduate, and Josef, a current senior at Hillsdale. Diane and Al have run two businesses together: the All-Aboard Travel Agency, which they owned from 1990 until 2001, and their current company, World Sports Exchange. Philipp currently serves on the boards of Hillsdale Hospital and the Hillsdale Community Foundation.
