Dr. Smith is a pathologist and serves as the Medical Director of the Laboratory at Hilo Medical Center. Over the last 10 years, he has been an active and involved member of the medical staff at the hospital. Dr. Smith earned his medical degree at the formerly named Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. He did his postgraduate studies in Pathology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He serves as chairman of the Hawaii Speleological Survey and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Cave Conservancy of Hawaii. Dr. Smith has been personally invested in Hawai’i for over 30 years and has called Hawai’i his home since 2004.
