Shae McLaughlin has a diverse work experience spanning various fields. Shae currently holds the position of Quad Fellow at Schmidt Futures since 2023. Prior to this, Shae served as the CEO and Co-Founder at Hippocratic AI from 2022. In 2022, Shae also worked as a Visiting Student at The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, where they focused on pre-clinical animal model behavior and analysis as well as stem cell differentiation and cell therapy. Shae also pursued a Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Melbourne from 2022 to 2023.
Before transitioning to the healthcare and research field, Shae worked in government and advisory roles. They served as a Senior Media Advisor at Investment NSW from 2021 to 2022. In 2020, Shae worked as a Senior Advisor at NSW Treasury. Prior to that, Shae served as an Adviser for the NSW Minister for Police and Emergency Services from 2019 to 2020. Shae also worked as a Media Adviser from 2018 to 2019 and as an Assistant Adviser from 2017 to 2018 for the NSW Minister for Counter Terrorism, Corrections, and Veterans Affairs.
In addition to their professional roles, Shae has demonstrated leadership skills as a team leader in various competitions. They led undergraduate researchers in both the iGEM Competition and the Australasian SynBio Challenge, working on designing a naturally transformable lab strain of E. coli with the aim of reducing economic barriers to participation in synthetic biology research. Shae's team received a Gold Medal at the 2021 iGEM Giant Jamboree.
Shae McLaughlin's education history includes obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics and Genomics from the University of Sydney. They are currently pursuing a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at the University of Melbourne, which is expected to be completed in 2023. Following that, Shae plans to pursue a Master of Science (MS) degree at the University of California, San Francisco, starting in 2023 and completing in 2025. In addition, Shae took a Learn Python 3 Pro Course at CodeAcademy in 2022. They completed their Higher School Certificate (HSC) at Caroline Chisholm College from 2010 to 2015. Furthermore, they obtained a certification in the Getting Started with Natural Language Processing Course from Codecademy in January 2023.
