Historic Cabarrus Association, Inc.
Historic Cabarrus Association, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission dedicated to ensuring the preservation, education, and appreciation of Cabarrus County’s past in order to create a better understanding of our region for future generations. HCA was formed in 1973 by local citizens who were passionate about the preservation and restoration of the Historic 1876 Cabarrus County Courthouse. The original Board of Directors, along with the originators of the Old Courthouse Theatre, were responsible for saving this wonderful historic treasure from demolition. The Concord Museum, originally known as Memorial Hall, was founded in 1939 when the Concord City Aldermen requested that the Coltrane-Harris Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy create a home for artifacts, documents, and books of historical significance to the community. On June 26, 2007, Historic Cabarrus, Inc. and The Concord Museum merged, becoming Historic Cabarrus Association, Inc., and opened a sister exhibit, The Cabarrus County Veterans Museum. In 2017, the Cabarrus Genealogy Society merged with Historic Cabarrus Association, Inc., expanding our programming and publishing the award-winning Cabarrus Golden Nugget journal. Historic Cabarrus Association, Inc. is embarking on a renewed focus toward county-wide preservation efforts and community outreach, including an upcoming local history visitors’ center, and events such as Downtown Concord Historic Walking Tours with community partners including the Cabarrus County Public Library, Leadership Cabarrus, Old Courthouse Theatre, Residents of Historic Concord, and area veterans.
