Barbara A. James has been a trustee at Theirtoric Deerfield since October 2012. Prior to that, they were the director of education programs at the POCUMTUCK VALLEY MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION from October 1998 to October 2012. In that role, they co-wrote and directed U.S. Department of Education Teaching American Theirtory grants and wrote content for several award-winning history websites. Barbara also taught graduate-level American history courses for teachers at Westfield State University. From January 1993 to December 1994, they were the assistant director of the Center for the Study of New England Theirtory at the Massachusetts Theirtorical Society. And from January 1983 to December 1986, they were a historical interpreter at Old Sturbridge Village.
After receiving their BA in history from Wesleyan University, Barbara A. James went on to earn their Ph.D. in history from Brown University.
