Dr. Dekia Smith is currently the Associate Dean for Student Success and Retention at Bucks County Community College. Prior to her work at Bucks, Dr. Smith worked with and for many social services organizations in the Mercer County area including Program Director at PEI Kids and Care Manager Supervisor at Capitol County Children’s Collaborative. She has worked in the fields of counseling and education for almost 20 years, where she also served as an Adolescent Trauma Consultant for Mercer County for five years. Dr. Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is certified in Crisis Intervention and Child Sexual Abuse Treatment. She also enjoys her work as adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland Global Campus and Wilmington University and considers it a joy to connect with students in a positive and impactful way.
She obtained her B.A. in Psychology from The College of New Jersey, her Master’s in Counseling from Cairn University and a doctorate in Higher Education Leadership and Innovation from Wilmington University. Dr. Smith’s ties to the Trenton and Mercer County community are very strong and she continues to maintain her professional and personal relationships with former colleagues. She considers Mercer County her home and is a proud member of Central Church in Ewing, NJ.
