Helen Knipe Smith

Helen Knipe Smith has extensive experience in public service and leadership within housing and urban development. As Owner and President of HKS Consultants since 2001, Helen has guided projects and initiatives that enhance community development. Previously, Helen served as Director of the Housing Enhancement Loan Program for Cuyahoga County from January 1998 to July 2001, where the innovative program collaborated with various stakeholders to improve housing financing in Cleveland and surrounding municipalities. Additionally, Helen was a member of the Board of Revision, representing the County Treasurer in property tax appeal hearings. From 1979 to 1997, Helen was elected to Cleveland City Council for five consecutive terms, advocating for redevelopment and urban problem-solving in several neighborhoods. Helen holds a Master’s degree in European History from Case Western Reserve University and a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from Maryville University of Saint Louis.
