Dean of Students & English Faculty at HOLDERNESS SCHOOL

Mb Duckett Ireland is currently the Dean of Students & English Faculty at HOLDERNESS SCHOOL. Prior to this, they served as the Dean of the Class of 2021 at Choate Rosemary Hall. As Dean of Students, they are responsible for the supervision of the social and academic life of students, including discipline, housing, course selection, and advising. They also work closely with the medical and counseling teams to monitor students’ mental and physical health, including managing concussion “return to learn” protocols. Additionally, they serve as the primary administrator responsible for student safety on campus in Dean on Duty rotation.

In their role as English Department Faculty, they teach writing, literature, and public speaking classes to all grade levels. They are also the Diversity Education Committee Chair (2016-18), where they are responsible for heightening cultural competency through training, curriculum review, admission work, and hiring practices. Additionally, they are the advisor to Spectrum, Choate’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance. As advisor, they act as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration and serve in an advisory capacity to the Dean of Students’ Office regarding issues of sexuality and gender identity.

Lastly, Mb Duckett Ireland was the inaugural faculty for the Environmental Immersion Program (2012-2016) at the Kohler Environmental Center. In this role, they were responsible for leading students in exploring environmental topics through an interdisciplinary lens.

Mb Duckett Ireland graduated from Columbia College, Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature in 2007. Mb then went on to earn their Master of Arts in English Language and Literature from Middlebury College in 2020.
