Deana Spencer has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations. Deana is currently serving as a Board Trustee at the Erikson Institute. Previously, they held the position of Director of Early Learning & Early Ed Policy at Holy Family Ministries, where they played a crucial role in nurturing the social, academic, physical, and spiritual development of 340 children and youth. Additionally, Deana served as a Board Member at Companions Journeying Together, Inc., where they actively contributed to the emotional, spiritual, and social well-being of incarcerated individuals and their families. Deana also worked as an Illinois Early Childhood Fellow at the IL. Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and held various roles at The Alain Locke Initiative, including Director of Parent & Child Services and Director of The Family Literacy Center.

Deana Spencer has a diverse educational background. Deana holds a Certificate in the Illinois Directors Credential Program from National Louis University, as well as a Certificate in Non-Profit/Public/Organizational Management from the University of Illinois Chicago. Deana obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Visual Communications from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. In addition, they have a Certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration, Early Childhood from Triton College. Deana also holds a Master of Arts in Education (MAEd.) with a focus on Early Childhood Education and Administration from the University of Phoenix. Lastly, they completed the IL. Early Learning Fellows Program at the Erikson Institute.

Holy Family Ministries

Located in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, Holy Family Ministries is a not-for-profit organization operating four programs: (1) Holy Family School (K-8, faith based); (2) Little Learners pre-school and childcare program; (3) Adventures in Learning after-school and summer program; (4) The Peace Exchange youth nonviolence training program. Families pay a fee based on income, approximately 25% of the full cost. Programs are offered “first-come, first-served” without regard to religion, race, previous academic achievement, or ethnicity.
