Paulus Schoutsen has a diverse and extensive work experience. Paulus is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Nabu Casa, a position they have held since September 2018. Prior to that, they founded and led the development of Home Assistant, the world's largest open source home automation project, starting in September 2013.
Paulus also worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Ubiquiti Networks from April 2018 to April 2019. Before that, they held multiple roles at AppFolio Inc., including Senior Software Engineer from October 2015 to April 2018, and Software Engineer from October 2014 to October 2015.
In addition, Paulus has co-founded and worked as a Co-Founder at 1 euro per dag, a non-profit foundation that encourages people to donate money to charities, from an unknown start date to February 2015. Paulus was also an ETL Developer at the San Diego Supercomputer Center from January 2012 to July 2014, where they were responsible for high-performance ETL of medical records.
Before that, Paulus co-founded Schoutsen de Kock V.O.F., a two-person company where they were responsible for development and finances. Paulus also worked at the University of Twente as a Development Lead from September 2006 to December 2011, leading a team in building an online learning environment.
Furthermore, Paulus worked at Microsoft as an IT Consultant at Dutch Open Government Data from May 2010 to February 2011, and as the Chairman of Plaatselijke Kamer van Verenigingen Fact from March 2008 to February 2009. In both roles, they were responsible for various projects and initiatives.

Paulus Schoutsen completed their education at the University of Twente. From 2004 to 2010, they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Business Intelligence. Following this, they pursued their Master of Science degree in Computer Science with the same specialization from 2010 to 2012. In September 2012, Schoutsen obtained a certification as a PowerCenter 9.x Level 1 Developer from Informatica University.
