Joseph Kim is currently the Director at Hopkins Biotech Network. Prior to that, they worked as the Director of Industry Relations, Associate Director of Entrepreneurship, and at AKESOgen, Inc. as the Clinical Laboratory QC and Operations Manager, Senior Research Associate, and Research Associate II. At AKESOgen, their responsibilities included being responsible for successful execution of in-house projects, staff training and certification of competency, and assisting in review and update of procedures to comply with regulations, policies, procedures and technical advancements. Joseph also supervised all work processes and ensured work was performed accurately and efficiently. Additionally, they worked with a cross-functional team to complete specific projects, led suspect product and sample management process, ensured QC requirements were met and quality of data released within established turnaround times, performed and reviewed quality control on products, reagents, equipment and test kits, and worked with the V.P. of Laboratory Operations to develop and deploy policies/SOPs. Furthermore, they participated and maintained effective quality management and safety programs. At their previous position, they were also the Principal Illumina genotyping technical expert and project manager where they managed multiple molecular genomic projects ranging from next generation sequencing genotyping, methylation, gene expression, nucleic extraction and biobanking. Joseph also managed and performed genotyping procedures for forensic applications as well as trained new laboratory technicians in laboratory safety, protocols and data integration. Furthermore, they accessioned and performed DNA/RNA extractions for various sample types (saliva, blood, stool, FFPE, human and animal tissues), performed testing for pharmaceutical clinical trial validation, validated new methods, prepared SOP’s, compiled and interpreted various experiment data. Other duties involved quality control, equipment maintenance, solution and reagent preparationand inventory in accordance to CLIA and CAP certified standards. Joseph Kim has been working in the biotech field for over 11 years and has been instrumental in developing new methods and processes to improve efficiency and quality control.

Joseph Kim attended the Georgia Institute of Technology from 2008 to 2012, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. Joseph is currently attending the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where they are pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Cellular and Molecular Medicine.
