Horatio Alger Association
Lesley Albanese is the Chief Executive Officer of the Horatio Alger Association, a position held since April 2024, where the focus is on promoting the American Dream for future generations. Previously, Albanese served as the Senior Vice President for Initiatives at the Cato Institute from January 2018 to March 2024, overseeing strategic priorities and engagement initiatives. Albanese's earlier positions include Vice President of Development at both the Cato Institute and FreedomWorks, as well as Director of Sponsor Services and External Relations at the Cato Institute. Educational credentials include a Master of Business Administration from The Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh.

Founded in 1947, the Horatio Alger Association fulfills its mission of honoring the achievements of outstanding individuals who have succeeded in spite of adversity and of encouraging young people to pursue their dreams through higher education. The Horatio Alger Association supports students through annual undergraduate and graduate need-based scholarships and mentoring programs across the United States and Canada. Since 1984, the Association has awarded more than $125 million in college scholarships to 25,000 deserving young people.
