Erik van Zyl

Erik van Zyl has over five years of work experience in the field of software engineering. From 2015 to 2017, they were the Co-Founder of Cinnamon Leather (Pty) Ltd, where they were responsible for brand development, web site UI, and social media advertising. In 2016, they worked as a Software Engineer Intern at Nomanini, where they implemented a newly optimised rendering system for their Elula device and integrated new products into their system. From 2017 to 2022, they worked at Hornet as a Backend Developer and then as a Senior Backend Developer, where they designed and built a wide variety of product-led server-side features that were exposed via their client-side applications. Additionally, they built tools that enabled their support staff to work more efficiently. In 2022, they joined Queer Spaces as a Senior Backend Developer, where they were responsible for rapidly designing and building server-side features from the ground up. Erik also worked at Stellenbosch University from 2017 to 2020 as a Teaching Assistant and Tutor.

Erik van Zyl attended Jeugland High School from 2009 to 2013. Erik then went on to Stellenbosch University where they received a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from 2014 to 2016. Finally, they obtained an Honours Degree in Computer Science from Stellenbosch University in 2017.
