Laurent Schaeffer

Laurent Schaeffer is a distinguished academic and researcher with extensive experience in the fields of pathophysiology, genetics, and biotechnology. Currently serving as a Professor at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 since 2010, Laurent directs the Pathophysiology and Genetics of Neuron and Muscle laboratory at the Institut NeuroMyoGène. Additionally, Laurent has been the Head of Department at the Cell Biotechnology Center at Hospices Civils de Lyon since 2013, overseeing one of France's largest human cell biobanks. Previously, Laurent was a Group Leader and Director at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology of the Cell at Ecole Normale Supérieure Lyon from 2000 to 2015, and worked as a Researcher at the Institut Pasteur in the Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory from 1995 to 1999. Laurent's academic journey began with a thesis in molecular biology at IGBMC after earning an Engineer's degree in Biotechnology from ESBS.
