Peter Fischer's work experience includes serving as the Medical Director at Hospital Wing since 2017. Prior to that, they held various roles at Regional One Health, including Trauma Medical Director (Interim), Trauma/Surgical Critical Care & Acute Care Surgeon, and Chief of Trauma (Interim). Peter also worked as an Associate Professor Of Surgery and Associate Professor of Anesthesia at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. In addition, they served as the Associate Program Director for Acute Care Surgery Fellowship and Chief of Division of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care (Interim) at UTHSC Department of Surgery. Earlier in their career, they were an Assistant Professor at Carolinas HealthCare System and a Surgical Critical Care Fellow at Oregon Health & Science University. Peter also served as a Paramedic at Hernando Fire and Rescue and worked as a General Surgery Resident at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Peter started their career as a Firefighter/Paramedic at Little Miami Fire and Rescue.

Peter Fischer completed their Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering at Vanderbilt University from 1996 to 2000. Following this, they attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine from 2000 to 2004 and obtained their Doctor of Medicine degree. Later, from 2006 to 2008, Peter pursued a Master of Science in Epidemiology at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. In terms of certifications, they obtained the EMT-Paramedic certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians in 1997, followed by the Firefighter Level II certification in 1998. Peter also holds various medical certifications, including being a Board Certified Surgeon since 2011 and Board Certified Surgical Critical Care since 2012. Additionally, they became an ATLS Instructor certified by the American College of Surgeons in 2007 and achieved Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C) from the International Board of Specialty Certifications in 2020.
