Hot or Cool Institute
Lewis Akenji is an accomplished professional in the field of sustainable development and climate policy, currently serving as Executive Director at the Hot or Cool Institute since July 2020. Akenji is also a Full Member of the Club of Rome and a Transformational Economics Commissioner at Earth4All. In addition, Akenji contributes to the Leadership Group on Climate: Ecosystems + Housing at Solve - MIT and previously held the role of Executive Director at SEED: Promoting Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development and Judge on the Leadership Team on Circular Economy at Solve - MIT. Akenji has extensive experience in sustainability initiatives, including co-leading the UN Sustainable Lifestyles programme and serving as Director of Sustainable Consumption and Production at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES). Akenji holds a Doctor of Science in Political Economy from the University of Helsinki and a Master of Science in Sustainable Resource Management from the Technical University of Munich.

Hot or Cool Institute is a non-profit think tank that works with experts, organisations, and practice communities on science-based actions to address the magnitude, urgency and scope of peaceful and deliberate transition towards a sustainable society. It takes a collaborative approach; working together it: conducts policy research and analysis to ground science-based approaches to behaviour change and sustainable lifestyles; coordinates science-communications and outreach to make complex sustainability issues accessible; facilitates co-creation of solutions backed by researched understanding and experience; designs capacity development for implementation and tools for action at individual, business and government levels.
