How you’ll contribute to the team:
As a Mechanical Piping Foreman, you will be tasked with preparing, fabricating, and installing plumbing and piping systems for commercial or residential projects. Foremen are expected to help train and supervise apprentices and other journeyman by providing feedback on their progress and performance. The day-to-day life of a Foreman can vary, as you will be directing the work of apprentices and journeyman, designing work layouts, developing work lists, and determining the sequence/methods of assembly and installation of work based on blueprints and project specifications. Foremen also play a key part in motivating employees to meet aggressive and achievable production goals while promoting safety, teamwork, and cooperation. You will need to work closely with Project Managers, Division Manager, and Field Superintendents and attend any on-site trade coordination meetings.
What you’ll bring to the table:
Mechanical Piping Foremen are leaders out in the field, and as such you’ll need to be capable of motivating and guiding team members to accomplish tasks by demonstrating strong supervisory skills and have great communication abilities. A professional appearance is always expected at Howe. You will also need to possess a valid driver’s license to commute to and from job sites as needed.
How you’ll qualify:
The ideal Mechanical Piping Foreman will have at least 5 years of commercial plumbing and mechanical piping experience, and will demonstrate strong skills and knowledge of the trade. You’ll stand out as a Foreman by having any additional technical training or education. Foremen are expected to obtain additional training and education as required. A high school diploma or equivalent is the minimum educational requirement.
What to expect in the field:
Working in the plumbing and piping industry can be physically demanding. As a Mechanical Piping Foreman, you must have the physical strength to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50lbs, and have the balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas. Foremen must also be able to work at height, on ladders or lifts, and in all weather conditions for prolonged periods of time. If offered a position with the company, you will be required to undergo and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check.
