Andrew Howe has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Andrew is currently working as a Scientist IV at HRL Laboratories, LLC, starting in August 2021. Prior to this, Andrew worked at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) from 2013 to 2021, where they held various roles such as Postdoctoral Researcher and Doctoral Candidate. Andrew conducted research on neuroscience topics, including applying machine learning to solve neuroscience problems and studying the engagement of the hippocampus in spatial tasks.

Before UCLA, Andrew worked as a Sr. Software Engineer at Vetstreet.com from 2011 to 2013, where they led the ETL Team responsible for integrating veterinary data from different systems. Andrew also worked as a Programmer/Analyst II at UCLA from 2009 to 2011, contributing to projects focused on neuropsychiatric phenomics and developing software solutions.

Prior to their time at UCLA, Andrew co-founded Informed Simplifications in 2005 and served as the VP of Research & Development. Andrew was also involved with the Levy Neurosurgery Laboratory, where they worked as a Systems Administrator and Programmer/Analyst I, solving software and hardware challenges and utilizing computational modeling techniques.

Earlier in their career, Andrew worked as a Computer and Network Technician at MTBW Services in 2004, providing IT support and developing database synchronization software. Andrew also gained research experience as a Research Assistant at the Kubovy Psychological Perception Laboratory in 2004, contributing to a project on human sound perception. Additionally, they worked again at MTBW Services as a Computer and Network Technician in 2003, providing IT support and deploying IT solutions.

Andrew's earliest work experience was as a Cancer Research Fellow at The National Cancer Institutes in 2000.

Throughout their career, Andrew has demonstrated expertise in areas such as machine learning, neuroscience, software development, systems administration, and computational modeling.

Andrew Howe completed their high school education at Urbana High School, earning a diploma in General studies from 1997 to 2001. Afterward, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Cognitive Science and Computer Science at the University of Virginia, which they completed from 2001 to 2005. In 2003, they had a study abroad experience at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, focusing on Spanish. Andrew went on to further their education at UCLA, where they obtained a PhD in Neuroscience between the years 2013 and 2020.
