Shannon Roback

Science Director at Riverkeeper

Shannon Roback has a diverse background in water research and education. Shannon is currently working as the Science Director at Riverkeeper since 2023. Prior to that, they were a Faculty member at Bard College starting in 2022. From 2015 to 2023, they worked as an Associate Director at UC Irvine and focused on water issues. Shannon also has experience as a Part-time Faculty at California State University-Dominguez Hills, California State University-Channel Islands, and California State University, Northridge. Additionally, Shannon worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Orange County Water District, specializing in water treatment. Shannon has a Ph.D. from UCLA, where they conducted research on carcinogenic disinfection byproducts. Shannon's early career involved being a Chemist at Metropolitan Water District and a Research Assistant at the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project.

Shannon Roback obtained a Doctorate in Environmental Science and Engineering from UCLA, which they pursued from 2011 to 2015. Prior to that, they completed their Master of Science in Environmental Health Science at UCLA from 2009 to 2011.

Riverkeeper

Riverkeeper is a member-supported watchdog organization dedicated to defending the Hudson River and its tributaries and protecting the drinking water supply of nine million New York City and Hudson Valley residents.
