Wilgert Willems has extensive work experience in various financial roles. Wilgert started their career in 1991 as a Controller at Former Stork B.V. and later moved to Suiker Unie as a Controller until 1999. In 1999, they joined ECT (Europe Container Terminals) as a Manager Planning & Control and held this position until 2015 when they became the Chief Financial Officer. In 2010, they also worked as a Directeur at Moerdijk Container Terminals B.V.
Wilgert Willems attended Tilburg University from 1986 to 1991, where they earned a Drs degree in Business Economics. Wilgert then pursued further education at Maastricht University from 1993 to 1995, where they obtained an RC degree in Registercontroller. There is no available information about any education prior to these university degrees. Other than this, Wilgert also attended Elzendaalcollege Boxmeer, where they completed their VWO degree, but the dates for this educational experience are unknown.

Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam is one of the leading and most advanced container terminal operator in Europe. The company handles a majority of the containers at the port of Rotterdam. ECT operates two terminals to this extent: the Hutchison Ports ECT Delta and the Hutchison Ports ECT Euromax at the Maasvlakte (directly on the North Sea). European Gateway Services is a part of ECT Rotterdam, and offers its clients an extended network of inland terminals and extended gates that are connected to the deepsea terminals in Rotterdam through high-frequency rail and inland shipping services. Extra services are added to these efficient connections, especially in the area of customs clearance.
