Herb Johnson has a diverse work experience history. Herb started their career as an Environmental Engineer at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1978, where they played a key role in implementing hazardous materials management regulations and engaging with constituents. Herb then joined the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1979 as a Staff Engineer and Research Engineer, responsible for tasks such as conducting seepage and levee design studies, as well as developing soil liquefaction testing methodology. In 1985, Herb founded HVJ Associates, Inc., a prominent specialty civil engineering firm, where they currently serve as the Chief Executive Officer. HVJ Associates offers a wide range of services, including geotechnical engineering, construction materials engineering, testing, and pavement management.
Herb Johnson has a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Mississippi State University, which they obtained in 1981. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the same university, completing it in 1978. In terms of further education, Herb has participated in studies in Management and Business at The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, Management and Leadership Studies at The Institute for Generative Leadership, and Studies in Management and Business at the Texas McCombs School of Business. Herb also holds a certification as a Professional Engineer, which they obtained in April 1984 from the Texas State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
