John Urbanowicz

Manager, Design Engineering at HyAxiom, Inc.

John Urbanowicz has extensive work experience in engineering roles. John started their career in 2000 at Candlewood Lake Authority, where they worked in lake and boat maintenance for seven years. In 2007, they interned at FloDesign Inc. as a Mechanical Engineer, designing hopper loading systems for an automated production line. John then joined Ogin, Inc. in 2008 as an Entry Level Mechanical Engineer, managing engineering interns and conducting research projects on wind turbine design. John later became an R&D Test Engineer, performing experimental studies at various wind tunnels to develop aero surfaces for a shrouded wind turbine. From 2014 to 2017, they worked as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Ogin, managing and performing test efforts on wind turbine components.

In 2017, John joined HyAxiom, Inc. as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, where they focused on component design and collaborated with domestic and international vendors. John led a team in implementing CAD-based costing software and worked on reducing costs through design and vendor optimization. In 2018, they became a Staff Engineer at HyAxiom and identified cost reduction projects and optimized design and manufacturing requirements for the fuel cell design. Currently, John is the Manager of Design Engineering at HyAxiom, leading a diverse team of professionals to support new product development and manufacturing efforts of utility-scale hydrogen-based energy systems. John manages all aspects of the design process, including certification, cost, and reliability.

John Urbanowicz obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Western New England University, where they studied from 2003 to 2008. In addition to their formal education, they also obtained several certifications, including the 10 Hour OSHA Hazard Recognition Training for the Construction Industry from UC San Diego Extension - International Safety Education Institute in April 2015. John also has certifications in CPR and AED training from the American Heart Association | American Stroke Association, CBFL Class 1,4,5 (Forklift Licenses) from the IVES Training Group, and Hoisting Engineering from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Safety. John obtained their Aerial Lifts ABL and Scissor/Boom AWP Operators Certificate from the IVES Training Group in April 2010.
