Head of Airworthiness (Form 4 position) and Flight Test Engineer at Hybrid Air Vehicles

Andrew Barber has worked in the aerospace industry since 1998. Andrew's first role was as Managing Director of FBS Engineering Ltd, where they founded the company to develop and produce the Census sports car. Andrew then moved to MG Rover as Powertrain Technical Manager, and subsequently to MGR Foamtex as Engineering Manager (Form 4 position). In 2010, they held the role of Engineering (Design Office) Manager at MacCarthy Interiors, and then moved to Reynard Aviation as Engineering and Certification Manager (Form 4 position). After this, they were a Certification Engineer at B/E Aerospace, and then a Seat Certification Manager at Tenencia Aerospace Design. In 2013, they became Head of Airworthiness (Form 4 position) at Game Composites Ltd, and then in 2015 they joined Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd as Head of Airworthiness (Form 4 position) and Flight Test Engineer. In November 2019, they were promoted to Certification Manager, and in October 2020 they became Head of Airworthiness. During their time at Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd, they led Flight Test Engineer on the aircraft for one flight, wrote the Flight Test Operations Manual, organised and delivered training to the flight test organisation, and was Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) for several technical disciplines. Andrew also wrote the specific dedicated certification basis for the production Airlander and developed with CAA, EASA and FAA the Certification Programme and Means of Compliance.

Andrew Barber attended Armthorpe Comprehensive from 1977 to 1984. Andrew then went on to the University of Southampton, where they earned a 2:2 in Aeronautics and Astronautics from 1985 to 1988. In 2016, they obtained an E Conditions Competent Person certification from the Royal Aeronautical Society. Andrew is also a Member of the Society Of Flight Test Engineers and the Royal Aeronautical Society (MRAeS).
