Elyas Rakhshani has had a varied work experience, starting in 2008 as a Research Intern at Central Research Board of Khorasan Electric Region. In 2011, they became a PhD Student Researcher at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. In 2012, they took on the role of Junior Researcher, Power Grid at Abengoa, where they were involved in various projects and activities related to power system dynamic analysis, control of HVDC systems, power converter modeling and simulations for power system applications, and real-time simulation with Opal-RT. In 2017, they became a Postdoctoral Research Engineer, Power Grid at Delft University of Technology, where they conducted innovative research on Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for frequency stability and proposed new mitigation measures for frequency problems in a low-inertia system. Elyas also contributed to grid code compliance testing and simulation-based scenarios for virtual inertia and prepared technical reports and contributed to deliverables of the project. In 2020, they took on the role of Senior Power System Consultant at ABB, where they worked on consulting assignments using established standards, methods, and technologies to develop solutions and resolve issues. Most recently, in 2021, they became the Lead Technical Manager, Control Systems and Algorithms at Hybrid Energy Storage Solutions Ltd. (HESStec).
Elyas Rakhshani obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya between 2011 and 2016. Elyas also holds several certifications, including Scripting in PowerFactory with Python from DIgSILENT GmbH (2017), a Certificate of Recognized Reviewer from Elsevier (2015), a Europe OPAL-RT Certificate from OPAL-RT Technologies (2013), a Power System Stability and Control Certificate from Aalborg University (2012), a PSCAD Tutorial of AC System Transients, Wind, and HVDC-FACTS Certificate from Manitoba HVDC Research Centre (2012), a Renewable Electrical Energy System Workshop Certificate from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (2011), and an IEEE Xplore Digital Library Training Certificate from IEEE (2011).
