Thomas Poelmans has a comprehensive work experience in various industries and roles. In 2008, they started their career at Deloitte as a Senior Consultant, where they focused on business development and project work in developing countries and the EU. From 2012 to 2014, they served as the Project Director at WorldLoop, a company dedicated to environmentally sound e-waste recycling in developing countries. Thomas then became the Sustainability Expert at Freestone Advisory from 2015 to 2019, specializing in real estate and property technology. In 2015, they also started their own business, Green Crossroads, providing consultancy and project development support for sustainable ventures. In 2016, Thomas became the Co-Founder and Director of NAMÉ Recycling, a plastic recycling company with operations in multiple African countries. In 2018, they co-founded Hydrobox, a company that focuses on providing affordable and sustainable power in regions without access to electricity. Lastly, in 2020, they co-founded Yetu Energy Africa, where they currently serve as the CEO.
Thomas Poelmans completed their education in a chronological order, starting in 1997 and ending in 2012. Their education began at VIA Tienen, where they studied but did not complete a specific degree or field of study. From 2003 to 2008, they attended KU Leuven and obtained a Bachelor's degree, followed by a Master's degree in Economics, specializing in International Trade and Industrial Economics. In 2006, Thomas studied at the University of Gothenburg, where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Additionally, in 2010, they briefly attended the World Bank to focus on M&E studies. Finally, from 2009 to 2012, they returned to KU Leuven to pursue a Master's degree in Political Science, specializing in Comparative & International Politics.
