Dann Webster

Dann Webster is the current Tech Director at Hypixel Studios. Prior to that, they worked at Riot Games from October 2017 to January 2022 as the Tech Director for Legends of Runeterra. In this role, they led the Engineering, Data Science, and Quality Assurance teams responsible for delivering Legends of Runeterra (LoR).

Webster was instrumental in "putting the S in Riot GameS" by leading the technology group that launched Riot's second game. They scaled the technology team from 10 to 50 technologists and introduced feature outsourcing, which allowed them to scale the entire product team by an additional 20%. Webster also coached and managed architects, principal engineers, and senior managers.

They helped design and implement production pipeline processes for feature design and implementation, as well as redesigning the Engineering titling system at Riot to help reduce systemic bias. Webster also incorporated Diversity & Inclusion practices into technology recruiting pipeline. Lastly, they helped design and build the cloud-native backend microservices architecture.

In addition to all of this, Webster oversaw the design and implementation of cutting-edge, real-world Machine Learning tools that now inform LoR's game design process with industry-first methodologies. They also helped restructure the entire product team to meet new demands through each game development life cycle phase (e.g., from prototype, to pre-production, through production, to live). Lastly, they architected the global deployment strategy for LoR.

Dann Webster completed a BS in Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin.
