Research And Development Team Lead at Hyrax Biosciences

Cathrine Scheepers has a diverse background in the field of biosciences and bioinformatics. Cathrine is currently working at Hyrax Biosciences as the Team Lead for Research and Development. Prior to this, they held the position of Bioinformatics Scientist at Hyrax Biosciences. From 2016 until now, they have worked at the University of the Witwatersrand, where they started as a Researcher and later became a Senior Researcher. In this role, they primarily supervised graduate students and served on research committees. Additionally, they have a joint appointment with the School of Pathology at the University of the Witwatersrand. Cathrine also worked at the Wits Health Consortium based at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, where they served as a Senior Medical Scientist. Cathrine'sresearch there focused on antibody gene diversity and its impact on responses to HIV and SARS-CoV-2 infections. Cathrine was also a member of the Adaptive Immune Receptor Repertoire (AIRR) community and served on the Inferred Allele Review Committee (IARC). Prior to that, Cathrine worked as a Medical Scientist at the Wits Health Consortium, where they studied antibody responses to HIV infection. Cathrine started their career as a Computational Biologist at SimuGen.

Catherine Scheepers has a strong educational background in the field of science. Cathrine completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2003. Cathrine further pursued their studies and obtained a BSc Hons in Human/Medical Genetics in 2004, and then a Master of Science (MSc) in the same field from the same university in 2007. Catherine went on to study Computational Biology at the University of Cambridge, where they earned a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in 2008. Cathrine completed their highest level of education, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Virology, at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2015. In addition, they have obtained a certification from The Health Professions Council called the Health Professions Counsel.
