Christoph Becker

Advisor to the Board of Directors at Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS)

Christoph Becker studied philosophy and art history at the University of Kassel, with a focus on the philosophy and history of science. As a special student at Harvard University, he dealt intensively with evolutionary-theoretical thinking in natural sciences, cultural studies and humanities. After graduating, he founded a day-care center in Berlin, which he managed as managing director for more than three years. From 2015 to 2017 he worked as an analyst in strategy and organizational consulting for universities and science centers on the topics of organizational development at universities, research policy and evaluations. After a year as a scientist Advisor to Patrizia Nanz, he has been supporting the entire Board of the IASS in all operational and strategic matters since February 2019 and coordinates the activities of the Advisory Board, the Research Integration Committee and Science Management.

The Institute’s central research topics are global sustainability policy and new governance models, especially with regard to democratic institutions and decision-making processes, innovative solutions for future energy systems, sustainable resource consumption, and the challenges facing our Earth system as a result of climate change and air pollution.
