GRC And Information Security Program Lead at IAT Insurance Group

Philip Hawkins has a diverse work experience in the field of security and risk management. Philip started their career as an Army Ranger in the 3rd Ranger Battalion and served for seven years. After that, they worked as a Technical Security Lead at High Point Nephrology, where they analyzed and implemented security measures.

Hawkins then joined CIBER, Inc. as a Security Consultant, providing expertise in Information Technology Security Management and project management. Philip also worked as an Information Security Analyst at the City of Charlotte.

Later, Hawkins joined Adecco as a Security Consultant, where they managed vendor IT risk assessments and initiated the development of an onsite risk assessment capability. Philip then moved to BB&T, serving as an IT Risk Management Specialist and later becoming the VP, SAP Security Manager. In this role, they ensured system security for multiple landscapes and implemented continuous process improvement.

Hawkins then worked at MetLife as a Security and Risk Consultant, followed by a role as a Senior Security Engineer at Ipreo. Currently, they are employed at IAT Insurance Group, where they first served as the GRC and Information Security Program Lead and later as the Interim Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).

Philip Hawkins has a diverse education history in the field of cybersecurity and information systems. Philip attended the Florida State University College of Law in 2022-2023, where they focused on Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Technology Risk Management. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Science in Information Systems Security from Colorado Technical University from 2011 to 2013. Philip also holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Criminal Justice from Campbell University, obtained in 2005-2006. Additionally, Philip pursued an Associate in Applied Science degree in Network Technology/ Information Systems Security from Forsyth Technical Community College from 2008 to 2010. Philip also completed an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice at Wake Technical Community College in 2005-2006, and another Associate in Arts and Sciences degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science from Wake Technical Community College in 2003-2005.

In terms of certifications, Philip has obtained several qualifications. Philip obtained the GIAC Strategic Planning, Policy, and Leadership (GSTRT) certification from the SANS Institute in October 2021. In February 2021, they received the CDPS certification from ISACA. In 2019, they acquired the GIAC Critical Controls Certification (GCCC) from the SANS Institute. Philip holds the CISSP certification from ISC2, earned in December 2015. Philip also attained the Certified Information Systems Risk and Compliance Professional (CISRCP) and Certified Risk and Compliance Management Professional (CRCMP) certifications from the International Association of Risk and Compliance Professionals (IARCP) in August 2014. Philip received the SSCP certification from ISC2 in August 2014 and earned the CRISC certification from ISACA in August 2011. Philip obtained the Network+ and Security+ certifications from CompTIA in January 2010. Lastly, Philip holds the Certified Information Security Manager certification from ISACA, but the date of acquisition is not provided.
