CJSC “Investment and Credit Bank, Tajikistan” was opened in 2004 (name of the bank: until October 2024 CJSC “The First MircoFinance Bank”) and in the same year started its banking operations as the first commercial microfinance bank. The Bank was established by the Aga Khan Development Network in Tajikistan to provide services and financial support to SMEs in Tajikistan aimed at developing the national economy. In summer 2007, the First Microfinance Bank acquired MSDSP's total loan portfolio in Khatlon region, which is considered an important milestone in the bank's development because henceforth all microfinance operations of the Aga Khan Development Network in Tajikistan were managed by the First Microfinance Bank. In the beginning, the Bank employed only 80 people. At that time, the bank consisted only of the main building and its main assets amounted to TJS 9,3m. The Bank gradually expanded its activities and attracted the attention of the people of Tajikistan. After obtaining a license to operate, the first small financial bank made every effort to expand its presence and for this reason opened its branches also in the regions of Tajikistan. The Bank for the first time opened its branches in various regions of Tajikistan, including Khujand, Khorog, Rasht, Kulob and Kurgan-Tube (now Bokhtar).
