Ruben Houbrechts

Ruben Houbrechts is currently a Project Manager and Data Scientist at icometrix. Prior to this, Ruben worked as a voluntary research assistant at the Biomedical Research Institute (BIOMED) in the Department of Immunology from January 2015 to April 2015. There, they researched the involvement of lipid metabolism and related nuclear receptors on phagocyte function in multiple sclerosis. From November 2013 to June 2014, Ruben worked on their Master Thesis Project at the Experimental Laboratory of Translational Neuroscience and Otolaryngology, researching the inflammatory mechanisms underlying the development and progression of temporal lobe epilepsy with a focus on the role of the translocator protein. In May 2013, Ruben completed a research internship at the Bio-Imaging Lab (BIL), studying auditory fMRI and rsfMRI on awake zebra finches. Finally, in May 2012 Ruben completed a research internship at BIOMED in the Department of Morphology.

Ruben Houbrechts earned a Master's degree in Neurosciences from the University of Antwerp and a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences from UHasselt. Ruben also has certification from Coursera in Machine Learning (Andrew Ng), FEDERATION OF EUROPEAN LABORATORY ANIMAL SCIENCE ASSOCIATIONS in FELASA Category C, and DataCamp in Data Science courses.
