Joan Vollero has extensive experience advising on complex external and internal communications based on a comprehensive understanding of reputation, perception, risk, and related issues. Over the course of two decades, she has applied her journalism training and professional background to strategic communications work.
Prior to joining ICR as a Managing Director in its Special Situations practice group, Joan advised companies and individuals on a wide range of matters relating to crisis and litigation support at Prosek Partners. Her recent experience includes matters before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
For more than 11 years, Joan ran communications and external affairs for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the leading state prosecutor’s office in the country, where she served as Director of Communications and a senior adviser to Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. during his three terms in office. In this capacity, Joan also ran Prosecutors Against Gun Violence, a national, non-partisan organization of 50 leading prosecutors dedicated to finding practical legislative and policy solutions to the gun violence epidemic, working closely with leading gun safety advocacy organizations.
Earlier in her career, Joan worked as a journalist at NY1 News. She is a graduate of Tufts University, and received her Masters from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
