James Matthews is currently the Head of Programmes and Prevention at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), where they have held multiple roles since 2015. Previously, they worked as a freelance obituary writer and had notable experiences including serving as a George F. Kennan Member at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and as a Marie-Curie Intra-European Research Fellow at University College Dublin. Matthews holds a D.Phil. in Modern Spanish History and an M.A. in Digital Journalism and New Media from the University of Oxford and New York University, respectively. They continue to enhance their expertise through a Leadership Certificate program at the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne.
