Even before he co-founded Lucid Software, Karl Sun had already filled his résumé with incredible accomplishments. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he received a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, as well as an M.S. in Technology and Policy. From there, he attended Harvard Law School, earning his J.D. while also serving as an editor of the Harvard Law Review.

Following his graduation from Harvard, Karl worked as an attorney at both Venture Law Group and Perkins Coie LLP. He also served as a law clerk to Judge R.C. Clevenger III. In 2002, Karl jumped head first into the world of tech and joined Google. He started as Head of Patents, opening the company’s patent department, and setting the patent strategy. Three years later, he started the Google China office and led business development there.

Under Karl’s leadership, Lucid Software’s SaaS product has a firm grip on the market, with 15 million users spanning 180 countries and 700,000 new users per month. Ninety-six percent of the world’s Fortune 500 companies use Lucid chart. Clients include NASA, Tesla, Coca-Cola, Spotify, and many more.

In 2017, Karl was the recipient of the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year Utah Region for Business Services category. Karl was also honored as one of the 2017 Utah Business CEO of the Year.
