Irene Arias Hofman

Irene Arias Hofman, CFA, serves as the CEO of IDB Lab since January 2018, utilizing over 20 years of experience in investing in emerging markets and leading global teams. IDB Lab, part of the IDB Group, focuses on innovation to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean. Prior to this role, Irene held various leadership positions at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) from 2000 to January 2018, including Director for the Latin America and Caribbean Region and Global Director of the Financial Institutions Group, managing significant investment portfolios and developing regional strategies. Irene began her career at the World Bank as a Private Sector Development Officer and as a consultant at CGAP. Irene's educational background includes advanced degrees in International Relations and Economics from The Johns Hopkins University and the College of Europe, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
