Doug Turner

Survey Director at IDS Engineering Group

A high-school summer job working as a rodman kindled Doug’s enthusiasm for surveying. Forty years later, he’s still excited about having an outdoor job. His surveying expertise has guided the development of schools, chemical plants, and flood control projects. His experience surveying roadways range from urban streets such as Cullen Boulevard near the University of Houston to suburban byways like Tomball’s Quinn Road. Doug’s large transportation projects include Houston’s IH-10 Katy Freeway and the new 40-mile Central Texas toll road SH 130, where he provided quality control over 3,000-plus acres of acquisitions. He previously managed TxDOT Houston District’s right-of-way section. Doug spent 12 years on the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying Board, creating exams, speaking, and mentoring at Texas A&M University Survey Camp. He sits on advisory boards of several community colleges and raises scholarship funds for aspiring surveyors.
