Franz D. Hofer serves as an Instructor in History and Cultural Studies at IES Abroad since January 2019, creating and teaching courses such as "Vienna's Victuals: A Cultural History of Food and Drink in Austria" and "Museums and Public History: The View from Vienna," while organizing activities for American university exchange students to enhance their experience of Vienna. As an Independent Scholar and award-winning beer writer, Franz D. Hofer founded the blog A Tempest in a Tankard, focusing on the history and culture of beer. Previous experience includes serving as a Mellon-ACLS Public Fellow at the Wien Museum, where outreach to diverse communities was conducted, and research and proposal writing achieved significant funding for museum renovation. Academic involvements include a Bowmar Postdoctoral Fellowship and teaching at Cornell University, where coursework emphasized visual culture's connection to historical events. Franz D. Hofer holds a Ph.D. in European and East Asian History from Cornell University, along with a Master’s degree from McGill University and a Bachelor’s degree from Simon Fraser University.
