IFD Corporation was formed to develop, with utility partners, a reliable low-cost sensor suitable for detection and indication of internal arcing faults in distribution transformers. In 2002 we shipped our first sensor to a utility customer. Today, customers in Canada, the USA, and around the world use and have come to trust our reliable technology. Our team development approach, with innovative industry partners, has delivered a practical solution for the distribution system of today’s, and tomorrow’s, utilities.

Faster…safer…better…

The IFD is the result of our commitment to improving safety, operations, productivity, and customer service for the electric utility. Extensive R&D, power lab, and field testing continue to define our commitment to product excellence. Our efforts are supported by the vision and practical guidance supplied by our customers and related industry partners who provide professional and advisory support.

Today the IFD provides a simple message to power line technicians, ‘See the signal, replace the transformer!’ This information provides confidence at a glance for the person responsible for restoring power to customers.

Where are we going?

The challenge to provide cost-effective solutions for smarter-grid systems has started. To the utility, this is simply ‘information that meets requirements’. We have prototype projects underway to extend the value of the IFD concept for our customers. Beyond this? Just ask us.
