Luis Ortiz

Luis Ortiz is a Senior Scientist at Cultivarium, with extensive experience in the field of molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. Ortiz has served as a judge for the iGEM Foundation since 2016 and previously worked at Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc. as a Senior Test Engineer and Test Engineer focused on selections and strain improvement from 2020 to 2024. Prior to that, Ortiz provided support as a Campus Adviser for Benchling, aiding the Boston University science community, while also completing a PhD at Boston University with research on biosensor discovery and automation in synthetic biology. Additional experience includes research roles at Harvard Medical School and the University of Florida, where laboratory techniques and mammalian genome engineering were emphasized. Ortiz holds a PhD from Boston University, a BS from the University of Florida, and an AA from Valencia College.
