Paul Mitchell has a significant background in climate change and sustainable development. Paul has held various roles in different organizations, starting in 2005.

Paul'smost recent position is as the Principal Researcher and Team Leader for Locally-led Climate Action and Climate Finance at the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), which they began in 2024. Prior to this, they worked as the Principal Climate Change Advisor at Save the Children Australia from 2020 to 2023.

Before joining Save the Children Australia, they served as the Deputy Team Leader and Climate Change Adviser at the Australia Pacific Climate Partnership Support Unit from 2018 to 2020. Paul also worked at Save the Children Australia as the Climate Change Manager from 2017 to 2018.

Paul Mitchell has experience as a Climate Change Adaptation and Sustainable Development Consultant at adapt-develop from 2014 to 2017. Paul previously held the position of Global Climate Change Advisor at Save the Children Australia from 2011 to 2014.

From 2006 to 2011, they worked at AusAID as the Program Manager for Climate Change Adaptation and later as a Program Manager/Senior Program Officer. Paul began their career as a Human Resource Development Advisor/Journalist Trainer at the Ministry of Information and Culture, Lao PDR, in 2005.

Paul Mitchell completed their Bachelor of Arts (honours) degree in Cultural Studies from UNSW in 2003. In 2004, they pursued a Masters degree in International Social Development from the same institution.
