Sandra Matthews has over two decades of work experience in various leadership roles. Sandra began their career in 1994 as the Director of Public Relations at City Colleges of Chicago, where they worked until 1998. From 1998 to 2007, Matthews served as a Senior Program Consultant at the Michael & Juanita Jordan Endowment Fund, overseeing daily operations and strategic development. In 2010, they were appointed as the Chief of Staff/Office of Civil Rights/Presidential Appointee at the U.S. Department of Education, responsible for communication and policy enforcement. Since 2012, Matthews has been the Senior Vice President of Organizational Advancement at Illinois Action For Children, managing strategic marketing communications and fundraising efforts.
Sandra Matthews obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree from North Central College between 1973 and 1977. Sandra majored in English and French and pursued a minor in Education during their time there. In 2004, they attended Loyola University Chicago School of Law for a brief period and obtained a Masters of Jurisprudence degree in Child and Family Law Advocacy.
