Freya Michiels

Scientific Researcher

Freya Michiels is an accomplished researcher with extensive experience in bioscience engineering and sustainability in the agri-food chain. As a PhD researcher at KU Leuven from April 2017 to September 2021, Freya focused on life cycle assessments in agriculture, utilizing advanced Monte Carlo simulations and exploring sustainable practices to minimize food waste. Following this, Freya served as a postdoctoral researcher, conducting projects such as the carbon footprint analysis of pear cultivation and modeling infection risks in horticultural plants. Since May 2022, Freya has been a scientific researcher at the Instituut voor Landbouw-, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek, contributing to multiple research initiatives. Freya's educational achievements include a PhD from KU Leuven, as well as master's and bachelor's degrees in agricultural and horticultural bioengineering, with multiple accolades for academic excellence.
