Nick Berkvens is a seasoned data science professional with extensive experience in the agricultural and environmental sectors. Currently serving as a Senior Data Scientist at the Instituut voor Landbouw, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek (ILVO), Nick is involved in the development of innovative data repositories and AI pipelines for soil management projects. Previous roles include establishing an AI competence center for the Flemish Government at Atos, and serving as a Data Scientist at publiq vzw, where Nick analyzed leisure event data using advanced Google Cloud technologies. Additional experience includes predictive modeling at Volvo Financial Services and data consultancy at Hedera Insights. Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (ILVO) researches the entire food chain, from primary food production to food processing and also the social and economic aspects of agriculture and fisheries. ILVO is an independent governmental research institute, part of the Government of Flanders’ Agriculture and Fisheries Policy Area in Belgium. ILVO’s mission is to perform and coordinate policy-supportive scientific research and the associated public service with the goal of creating sustainable agriculture and fisheries from an economic, ecological and social perspective.
