Sara Maes has extensive experience in the field of marine genomics, serving as the Lab Manager of the Marine Genomics Lab at ILVO since October 2012, where responsibilities include DNA-based seafood identification, metabarcoding, and metagenomics. Prior to this role, Sara worked as an Expert Technician at VIB from October 1998 to September 2012. Educationally, Sara holds a Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical and Biological Techniques, obtained between 1995 and 1998.

Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (ILVO) researches the entire food chain, from primary food production to food processing and also the social and economic aspects of agriculture and fisheries.
