Michael L. Tobin, M.D. attended medical school at Texas Tech, in Lubbock on a Naval Health Professions Scholarship. Throughout his career, he has served both his patients and his country. He was selected for a Family Practice internship at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital. He then transferred to Florida to attend Naval Flight Surgeon training in Pensacola. Dr. Tobin joined Carrier Air Wing One for a tour attached to the aircraft carrier USS America, stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. He completed his Radiology Residency at the Naval Hospital San Diego.
After a brief tour in Rota, Spain, he joined the teaching staff at Oakland Naval Hospital. Dr. Tobin headed the Mammography program and was instrumental in the adoption of stereotactic core biopsy at Naval Hospital, training residents from Stanford, UC San Francisco, and an Air Force training program in the Bay Area. Dr. Tobin returned to Southern California, rejoining the Naval Medical Center in San Diego (NMCSD), where he was the faculty lead for Chest Radiography.
He joined Imaging Healthcare Specialists in 2000. He began a full-time position working at Scripps Mercy Hospital and our outpatient imaging centers in 2002.
