Dave Evans

Data Engineer - Data Analytics Team Lead at IMC Trading

Dave Evans has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Dave began their career at the University of Glasgow as a Research Associate, where they analyzed the Fermilab CDF Experiment's distributed data processing capabilities and designed cross-experiment software for grid systems.

Dave then moved to Imperial College London as a Research Associate, where they assessed distribution methods for physics analysis software in a grid processing environment. Dave also implemented scalable solutions for sand-boxing Linux executables and improved production tools software.

After that, Dave joined Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory as an Applications Developer and Systems Analyst IV. In this role, they led the Data and Workload Management development project for the Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment at CERN. Dave also led the CMS Workload Management Group, developing python and NoSQL-based workload management platforms for grid computing and their extension to the Cloud.

Dave's next role was at Narrative Science, where they had two positions. First, as the Lead Data Engineer, they were responsible for architecting the data ingestion and analysis platform for the Narrative Science Quill platform. Dave also developed an ELT-driven data aggregation and business intelligence platform, applying enterprise integration patterns to client data. Later, as the Director of Software Engineering, Data, they built teams with strong data science and software engineering skills to model and analyze client data and optimize the production of narrative reports using Quill authoring software. Dave incorporated scrum techniques to improve throughput, productivity, and knowledge sharing.

Dave later joined Cloudant, An IBM Company as a Senior Software Engineer, where they worked on software engineering projects until 2016.

Their most recent role is at IMC Financial Markets as a Data Engineer and Data Analytics Team Lead, starting in 2016.

Overall, Dave Evans has a strong background in data engineering, software engineering, and team leadership, with a focus on developing innovative solutions in data analytics and workload management for various organizations.

Dave Evans obtained their MPhys degree in Physics with Theoretical Physics from Lancaster University, where they studied from 1995 to 1999. Dave further pursued their education at Lancaster University and completed their PhD in Particle Physics from 1999 to 2003.
