Head of Winemaking at In Good Taste

Matthew Smith has over 20 years of work experience in the wine industry. Matthew started their career in 1998 as Export Services Manager at SDV. In 2002, they became a Harvest Intern at Robert Mondavi Winery, followed by a similar role at Joseph Drouhin in 2003 and Mitchelton Wines Pty Ltd in 2004. In 2004, they began their tenure at Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates as Winemaking Director, where they had winemaking direction and oversight for all wines produced for the Kendall-Jackson brand. In 2011, they became Winemaker for Liberated Wines, Silver Palm Wines, and the White Rocket Portfolio at Jackson Family Wines. In 2016, they took on roles as Winemaking Consultant at Sunstone Winery and Owner at OHI Wine Consulting. In 2019, they began their current role as Head of Winemaking at In Good Taste Wines, where they are charged with producing an eclectic mix of wines from multiple regions and countries. Additionally, they are a co-founder of GrapeSeed.

Matthew Smith attended the University of Michigan from 1986 to 1990, where they obtained a BA in Political Science and French Language Studies. Matthew then attended the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle from 1988 to 1989, where they studied French Culture, including Literature, Sociology, and Arts. Afterward, they attended City College of San Francisco from 1999 to 2001, and then the University of California, Davis from 2001 to 2003.
