Nishi Joshi is a seasoned professional in the field of psychotherapy and dance movement therapy, currently serving as Vice President and Executive Board Member of the Indian Association of Dance Movement Therapy since July 2021. Nishi is also the Registered Psychotherapist and Founder of The Safe Sanctuary, with ongoing roles as Consultant Psychotherapist at The Color of Grey Cells and Curriculum Designer at The Acres Foundation, where a comprehensive SEL-based digital curriculum for Grades 1 to 8 was developed. Indian Association of Dance Movement Therapy
The Indian Association of Dance Movement Therapy (IADMT) is a professional body for Dance Movement Psychotherapists (DMP), Dance/Movement Therapists (DMT), Dance Movement Therapy Practitioners (DMTP), Dance Movement Therapy Facilitators (DMTF), and Dance Movement Therapy Researchers (DMTR) in India. It is a National Association registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975. It has been formed to set ethical standards for professional practice, training, and supervision in the field of Dance Movement Therapy in India. The IADMT promotes the growth, development, and recognition of the profession of Dance Movement Therapy in India by: - Establishing and maintaining standards of training, research, and professional practice. - Providing ethical guidelines that bring about safety for both the practitioner and the client. - Providing means of communication, education, and networking among DMTs, health professionals, employers, and clients. - Providing information and resources for its members, students, and the wider community. - Offering membership to applicants who meet the training and relevant criteria. - Liaising with other relevant national and international professional bodies. The Indian Association of Dance Movement Therapy (IADMT) defines Dance Movement Therapy as "a psychotherapeutic method that uses movement and creative expression to further socio-emotional, cognitive, and somatic integration. This approach is based on the principle that the body and mind are integrated." It helps in self-expression to bring about a change in the total functioning of an individual. DMT is for individuals of all ages, gender, races, and ethnic backgrounds in individual, couples, family, and group therapy formats.
